Let me tell you a story about Richie, Scotty and Sugar playing Lawn Bowls.

Our three City boys were out on the ‘Green’ practising, up at the City Bowling Club. Sugar was about to bowl. When they saw a funeral precession go by. Instead of bowling, Sugar removed his cap and placed it on his chest and lowered his head until the funeral had passed.
At this point, Richie and Scotty looked at each other and said, “You know, that was the most touching thing I’ve ever seen you do Sugar.”
Sugar looked that them with surprise and answered, “Well, I was married to her for 5 years. It was the least I could do!”

I was paired with my wife playing bowls  and friends of ours. After playing very poorly and feeling down on herself my wife turned to me and said. “Nobody loves me….nobody cares for me..the whole world hates me!”
Without thinking through the answer I said  “That’s not true dear. You are not that famous that whole world hates you. Some people don’t even know you.”

GOOOOOOOOOOO there is bearfoot bowls starting at 4pm, before our Presentation Night kicks off on Friday Night, 12th April CITY

Training set down for Friday and enough talk of the weekend ahead, I have a story for you.

Don't forget there is fielding training,  Friday afternoon at No1 Oval from 5pm til 6 pm, all welcome to attend.
Our club and it's players have grown and achieved so much this season. It's time to put the icing on what has been a terrific season.
Before I sign off. All the luck in the world to very City player taking to the feild this weekend, you all have a role to play in your team, play hard, play strong, play smart.

That is enough talk about this weekend. I have a story to tell you.

Our three City players died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates.

"In honor of this holy season" Saint Peter said, "You must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven."

Scotty said I will go first and fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. "It represents a candle", he said as he gave Richie and Sugar a wink.

"You may pass through the pearly gates" Saint Peter said.

Richie, then thought for a moment and then reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, "They're Christmas bells." as he gave Sugar the thumbs up.

Saint Peter said "You may pass through the pearly gates".

Sugar started to search desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out the only thing he had, a pair of women's panties.

St. Peter looked at Johnny with a raised eyebrow and asked, "And just what do those symbolize?"

Johnny replied with his cheeky grin, "These are Carols."

GOOOOOOOOOOOO Be good Johnny, be good CITY

My tribute to the old blokes who will be turning out for 4th Grade this weekend

When Old Blokes turnout for City.
Once we’d pound in from the fence
to bowl in Lillee-style,
or bat for hours, resolved, intense,
all dancing feet and guile,
we now curl offies down the track
and keep our innings brief,
to ease that tender, aching back,
and give our legs relief.

These days our knobbly knees are shot,
our eyesight’s none too good;
we find that we can’t do a lot
of things that we once could.
The girls who came to watch us play
are now our wives, who sigh
and, knowing of the price we’ll pay,
keep liniment close by.

Yet still we keep on turning out,
for cricket is much more
than just a game, it’s not about
that final winning score.
It’s bonds we’ve forged along the way,
It’s the friendships, not the fame,
the mates we’ve gained as the seasons fade away…

when old blokes turnout for City
it is much more than a game.

GOOOOOO we have been here before, we know what is required, the very best, "Old Blokes" City

From adversity comes greatness

The cry of City,City, City!!! was heard loud and strong.

"The greatest victory's and the most magical moments comes when you're been truly tested, when you have taken some knocks and some disappointments. Because only if you've been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain."

City United will be represented in three grades. The "Let’s take a walk on the wild side" 2nd Grade side, the "Everything we do is magic" 3rd Grade side and not to forget the "BOOM BOOM!! It's gettin hot in here" 4th Grade side will all be there on Grand Final day.
Congratulations to our three Captains and all City players, supporters and their families for this wonderful achievement. To my knowledge this is the first time in City's history to have three teams represented in the Grand Final. All three team played excellent, smart, hard cricket against strong opposition and all deserve their opportunity in the big one.
More details of the matches tomorrow but lets celebrate and take time to reflect on the matches and this achievement until Wednesday, when it is back to training and preparing for the big weekend ahead.

Lets take time out from cricket and let me tell you a little story.

With the a new Pope being elected this week it reminds me of a trip that Richie, Scotty and Sugar took to the local church.
They were in the church and sat in a church service.
Sugar turns round to Richie and Scotty and says ''I have just done a silent fart, i hope no-one smells it''
They both look at Sugar and reply '' turn your hearing aid up, it wasn't that silent''.

After the service all three boys walked down the front of the church and noticed a pool of water. They asked the priest what the water was for and the priest said ''go do something bad and come back tomorrow''
So they did and came back the next day and they asked the priest why they had to do that. The priest answered ''When you do something bad,... You come to the holy water and drink it to be forgiven and clean'
Richie said ''well I Ran over a cat'' and then drank the holy water. Scotty said ''I robbed a bank'' and then drank the holy water. Sugar stared at them and the priest asked ''what Bad deed did you do?'' and Sugar replied ''I peed in the holy water''
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO all the luck in the world to all City players for this weekend CITY

City players are being looked after this weekend.

There will be a BBQ for all cricketers on Saturday night back at the bowling club for a small cost of $5 a head or $10 a family. On Sunday all teams will be supplied a yummy, yummy lunch. It is official City United’s own Ben and Matt Ballantine are the fastest opening batsmen between the wickets in the Tamworth Competition. The funny thing is, wearing batting pads do not seem to slow them down at all.

On the other hand our President was having a conversation with his daughter the other day.
• He asked her "What do you like most about me? My tremendous athletic ability or my superior intellect?"
After rolling around the floor laughing for a good five minutes "What I like most about you, dad" responded his daughter, "is your enormous sense of humor."

A wrap-up of the regular season.

Now with the regular part of the season completed, how did City players perform? City players, as reported throughout the season have represented this city of Tamworth and their zone in both junior and senior teams.  Congratulations, to all our City United players that have played at that next higher level of cricket this season.
Through the regular part of the season there were five City batsmen who have scored over 300 runs with  three century's being scored.  There has been eight City bowlers who have taken 5 wickets or more in a innes and there has been one Hat-Trick taken.

City United finished in third place in the Club Championship in front of West Tamworth, Old boys and Bective.

City United will have three Grades playing this weekend in the finals. Just short of our "Goal" set at the start of the season which was to have all four grade there, never the less it is still a very strong performance from everyone involved in this great club.
The business end of the season is upon us now. These are the matches you want to play in. The matches are longer, now 90 overs per innings and played over the same weekend.  Our 2nd Grade play West Tamworth at Riverside 3, 3rd Grade play Old Boys at TREC and 4th Grade play Old Boys at Riverside 7.
