All Grade Cricket has been cancelled for tomorrow.

Just advising that all grade cricket has been cancelled for tomorrow due to the wet weather. Team selections and training will be  on Wednesday as usual. GOOOOOOOO  see you Wednesday CITY

This bloke that came to City

Johnny with his good mate Tezza both are playing in firsts.
He has been selected in Firsts,
This bloke that came to City,
As Old Boys didn’t want him,
This bloke that came to City,
City would be a lesser club without him,
This bloke that came to City,
He has never had a curse word for anyone,
This bloke that came to City,
He is the first to training and the last to leave,
This bloke that came to City,
He can’t bowl because of his shoulder,
This bloke that came to City,
But I am proud to walk onto the field with him,
This bloke that came to City,
He chases the ball down like a whippet,
This bloke that came to City,
And he loves to play this slog sweep, finishing on one knee,
This bloke that came to City,
As a captain I know he has my back,
This bloke that came to City,
He gives his all, no matter the grade or the stage,
This bloke that came to City,
Leaving the field, after giving his sweat and blood is a matter of course,
This bloke that came to City,
Johnny is in the top Grade tomorrow,
With the big boys,
And we wish him well.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO where we play for the love of it CITY

Please note changes to teams.

There has been an amazing response from our few players with paying their outstanding fees. Our own Bounty Hunter in the form of Phillip Hood has not been unleashed yet on the few players with outstanding season fees. It's our responsibility as players to ensure that we are all financial. It's also City's goal that all fees are paid by the end of November. Phillip is chomping at the bit to be unleashed.
Scary I know, so be quick, we would prefer all payments are by direct deposit in to City United bank account ANZ ,BSB 012830 account 208227482. But if you are like me, and you pay by cash, it will be received with a smile. Fees can be paid to either Kathy, Nikki or Terry. If you require further time to pay your fees, please do not hesitate to contact Kathy (0419490534) now and she will discuss this matter with you.

Sing it proud and loud.

Our own Garry, Dan and Nathan Whale saw the first three days of the test match against the Poms in Brisbane. The Australian team celebration released months of tension leading up this series against England. The Australian Cricket victory song would of been sung proud and loud following the match.
Under the Southern Cross I Stand,
A sprig of wattle in my hand,
A native of my native land,
Australia you bloody beauty.
GOOOOOOOOO well done to Micheal and the boys CITY
.
Good-natured banter V's personal sledging.
Whether you agree with it or not, sledging is part of professional cricket.
At City United we believe there is no place for personal sledging in our local club cricket. We enjoy good-natured banter and there is no problem with that but personal sledging  against an opposition player is a form of bullying, that can kill the fun of playing cricket!.
We want our players to continue to be good sportsmen – it's an important life skill to be learnt for both on and off the field. Part of being a good sportsmanship is learning to lose with grace and win with humility.
We can’t control the behaviour of other teams. We can only ensure  there is a fair and respectful standard in our own game which we hope will be returned in kind by our opponents.
GOOOOOOOO we play for the love of it CITY

Nice guys don’t always finish last. Tezza one of City's best.

Amongst this year’s playing group. we have so many talented sportsman. One of them is Terry Kampe. Tezza is one of those players that are the first one picked in your team. He was introduced to City United a few years ago by Paul Hagley, where he started playing for City in fourth grade. Tezza was one of the major reasons why Fourths made it's way through to the Grand Final in that season. He then went to 3rd Grade where under Peter Mead they won a Premiership together. Last year Tezza also played under Paul Fisher in 2nd's. As Tezza has progressed through the grades he has been able to lift to that higher standard of cricket and perform. Tezza is currently playing 1st Grade and recently brought himself a helmet, "they bowl a bit faster and don't mind giving you a bouncer, up here in 1st Grade" He told me.
Tezza has taken so many bowling attacks apart with his wide variety of strokes. He can also bowl that killer late in-swinger that has claimed so many wickets.
GOOOOOOOOO City’s gentleman of the week Tezza Kampe CITY

A Friday little story.

Our three musketeers were in a boat just a few metres from shore on a dam. Suddenly Richie looked skyward and shouted, "I've forgotten my lunch," and he got out of the boat and walked across the water and back to the shore. Seconds later Scotty looked skyward and shouted, "I forgot my fishing bait,"  he too got out of the boat and walked across the water to the shore.
By this time, Sugar thought to himself, "They are not going to outsmart me. If they can walk on water so can I. He looked around and then skyward and shouted "I've forgotten my fishing rod."
He got out of the boat and immediately sank.
Both men stood on the shore and saw what happened. Scotty turned to Richie, "Do you think we should have told him where the stepping stones were?
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO all the best for tomorrow, gentlemen CITY

Best of luck to everyone for the weekend matches.

A early finish to the day

The storm that brought high winds, rain as well as hail, caused an early end to Saturday’s match with less than an hour of play completed. We were all disappointed that the days play was washed out, as there was so much eagerness and enthusiasm amongst our City players to get out there and turn the match around into our favour. In 1st Grade Simon Toyer (44 n.o.) was quietly confident that he was on his way to a century. In 2nd's Sugar was telling everyone that he was still Not Out. In 3rd's Trent picked up another wicket taking his tally to seven for the innings. While in 4th's Neil is still unbeaten as Captain. Talking of Sugar, I know we love to have a laugh with him, but he is a tremendous follow team mate. Whatever the situation the match is in  Sugar will still give his all, with that little smile and giggle, that's why we love having him in our club.
Our season fees are now overdue. There are still a few outstanding fees, It's our responsibility as players to ensure that we are financial. Please, it is not Kathy's role as treasurer to chase you down. She would prefer all payments are by direct deposit in to City United bank account ANZ ,BSB 012830 account 208227482. But if you are like me, and you pay by cash, it will be received with a smile. Fees can be paid to either Kathy, Nikki or Terry. If you require further time to pay your fees, please do not hesitate to contact Kathy (0419490534) now and she will discuss this matter with you.
GOOOOOOOOO rest up boys, Bective in a two-dayer starting this weekend CITY

A different kind of Friday story

In my thirty odd years playing and being involved with this amazing cricket club City United, I have seen some of Tamworth’s finest cricketers. Some of them are City’s Life Members in Roger Newell, Mark Skewes, Basil Penrith, Frank Gooley and Tim Wooster.
There is another name that I would put at the very top of this list of wonderful cricketers. He is a leader of men, his passion and knowledge of the game is unquestionable.
Peter after scoring a hundred against Bective East in a One-Day Final.
He is quietly spoken but when he speaks everyone listens. He is a man of Integrity and he is admired for his unselfishness that he has shown time and time again at City.
Peter Mead has proven that he is more than a great club man, he is the soul and the heart of City United.
GOOOOOO the time will come when we all have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, thank you once again Peter CITY

Australia leads the way with 344 audiences, United Kingdom 79 audiences, United States 64 audiences, other countries well represented are Thailand, Germany, India and New Zealand

The poms are coming

Just before my daughter went to bed I told her how the Cricket Test Match was starting in a few days in Brisbane against the old enemy. I told her "for the five days I am going to sit in front of the television and watch every ball bowled"

A hour later, while passing her room  I overheard her say. "Dear God, if cricket is played in heaven please let it be raining".
GOOOOOOOO don't you love them CITY

Thanks Simon

Lucky to have club-man like him, Simon Bellamy stepped up and took control of our after the match meal at the City Bowling Club on Saturday Night. Simon organised delivery of ten delicious pizzas. Thank you for that Simon. It was really yummy and very much appreciated.
With the shortish of players for this match, the club called upon Mark Fisher to play 3rd Grade. Mark is still wounded  after breaking his ribs with a collision with Tezza Kamp in 1st Grade a few weeks ago. Mark took to the field for 3rd Grade, holding his rib cage nice and tight whenever he ran after the ball. The 3rd Grades Snickers  Player of the Day Award went to, NO not to Mark but his partner Rikki  for allowing him to play. Rikki has had to put up with Mark's understandable complaints and frustration with his painful situation.                                                               GOOOOOOOO to our partners,  wife's,  girlfriends, mums who support us in our sport at CITY

As a club we pulled through.

As you saw from the teams that are playing in this match against Old Boys, we again unfortunately have so many players being asked to move through the grades from the 1st week to the 2nd week of the match. I appreciate from a players point of view this is not ideal. In the end we had a total of 27 players who are unavailable for either just one week of the two day match or the whole match completely. Our club hasdone a marvelous job to ensure that we fielded four teams, a very big THANK YOU must go to all the player for their support during this match.

Our season fees are now overdue. Kathy would prefer all payments are by direct deposit in to City United bank account ANZ ,BSB 012830 account 208227482. But if you are like me, and you pay by cash, it will be received with a smile. Fees can be paid to either Kathy, Nikki or Terry. If you require further time to pay your fees, please see or contact Kathy now and she will discuss the matter with you.

On Saturday two captains took the ball and the wickets for their teams. In 2nd Grade Peter he just keeps getting better Mead took 6 wickets for 46 off 13 overs. While over at 3rd's Trent captain for the day Balderston also took 6 wickets for 30 runs from his 12 overs.
GOOOOOOO leading from the front CITY

A early Friday story

As you saw from the teams to play this coming match against Old Boys, we again unfortunately have so many players being asked to move through the grades from the 1st week to the 2nd week of the match, I appreciate from a players point of view this is not ideal. In total 23 players are unavailable for either one of the two Saturdays or the whole match completely.  The club has done it’s best to fill all teams and thank the support from all our players.

Our season fees are now overdue. Kathy would prefer all payments are by direct deposit in to City United bank account ANZ ,BSB 012830 account 208227482. Our three mates were discussing about coincidences. Ritchie said, " my wife was reading a "tale of two cities" and she gave birth to twins"
"Thats funny", Scotty remarked, "my wife was reading 'the three musketeers' and she gave birth to triplets"
Sugar shouted, "Good God, I have to rush home!"
When asked what the problem was, he spluttered, " When I left the house, my wife was reading "The Dirty Dozen"!!!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOO good luck on the weekend, gentlemen CITY

The season is a long one, with many matches still to be played.

Our President, feeling a bit glum after scoring two ducks on Saturday.
The results from the weekend matches didn’t go our way but the season is a long one with many more matches to be played. There were positives from very match, with us all looking forward to Old Boys in another two-dayer starting this Saturday.

Our President Terry is still positive about the club prospects of achieving it’s “CLUB GOAL” of having all four teams playing in the semi-finals come March. The teams taking the field this season bear little resemblance to the teams from last season, so it will take time for players to feel comfortable and find their feet in the higher grades.

Personally we can train hard and set ourselves our own achievable short term goals and take a positive away from every match we play.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOO train the way you wish to play CITY
