A reflexion on the season that was.

Back in September '12 we thought of our wives and girlfriends with the season fast approaching.

Sometimes she dosen't see the point of the game but you have to love them.

With the cricket season only a few weeks away now, I remember taking my then girlfriend to her first match of cricket. She sat through the first innings although she was plainly bored, she was then so relieved to see us leaving the field as we lost our last wicket.
To her shock to see after a short break, the other team going out to bat. When an opposition batsman gave a tremendous swipe and knocked the ball out of the ground, she was very quick to her feet 'Thank goodness they got rid of it,' she yelled. 'Now we can all go home”.

 GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO   'You're looking miserable.'
'My wife's ran off with the milkman.'
                                                'I'm sorry to hear that.'
"Yes. Now we'll be one batsman short on Saturday".  CITY

Have I got a story for you. The final one for this season but hoping all three boys will be back next season.

I would like to thank Richie, Scotty and Sugar for being good sports and allowing me to tell of their adventures throughout the season.

Our three City boys never made it out of the desert alive and were taken by God to the top of a cliff. God said to them that since they had been such great outstanding cricketers for City United that they would be given one chance to become anything that they desired.

Richie thought about it for a minute and ran to the edge of the cliff, jumped into the air and shouted, "I want to be an eagle." Instantly Richie was changed into an eagle and soared off into the sunset.

Scotty was the second go and ran to the edge of the cliff, jumped into the air and shouted, "I want to be an owl." Instantly Scotty was changed into an owl and soared off into the sunset.

Lastly Sugar ran towards the edge of the cliff, tripped on a rock and as he was falling through the air, shouted, "Oh crap ..."

GOOOOOOOOOOO I can neither confirm or deny that all of the stories about our three City boys are 100% correct but one is assured they will have a great night tonight, see you there CITY

Have I got a story for you.

Our three City boys were lost in the desert and came across a magician. The magician was standing next to a kids slide. Our three City boys asked the magician if he had any water?

The magician answered by saying to our three boys, ''If you go down the kids slide and yell for a drink of your choosing and when you reach the bottom of the slide you will receive a huge glass of that drink.”

Richie was the first to go and down the slide, yelling, ''lemonadeee!!!''

Plop!  He landed with a huge glass of lemonade.

After seeing this, Scotty was keen to be the second one to go down the slide yelling, ''Beerrr!!!''  Plop!  He landed with a glass of beer in his hand.

Sugar could not contain himself and ran to the slide. Our Sugar slid down the slide yelling ''wheeeeeeeee!!!'''

Mum's are always your greatest fan.

The old No.1 Oval Grandstand can be seen here with the three gum trees behind it. Photo was taken in the floods of January 1910. Poto was taken from the Post Office.
In my younger days my mum would always come along and watch me play cricket. Although my mum didn't know anything about cricket, one Saturday afternoon at No1 Oval (when it had the old wooden Grandstand).
My mother was watching proudly (as mothers do) from the Grandstand. Next to her, a spectator turned to her.
'He's bowling well,' he said, 'But his length varies.'
'Don't be ridiculous,' interrupted my mum. 'He's five foot, eleven and a half and has been for agers!' "
GOOOOOOOOOO mum's you have to you love them CITY

Only in 4th Grade.

Garry Whale addresses the batsmen. "Now come on, lets just bat out our over".
And after we did bat out our overs with over 250 on the board Anthony Fitzgerald addresses the team "Let bowl line and length and back each other up in the field".
In 4th Grade there is  no one leader, their is a number of senior players that guild the side around, you could say they all hunt as a pack.
Paulie Lawrence then calls the boys in for the final word of encouragement. Now you will never find Paul's team addresses in any coaching manuals. "We batted like crap so let's get out there and get those Bective sook's out".
Against Bective in the last Round game of the season was no different.

And as usual Paulie words inspired us to beat Bective out-right and go on to win the Minor Premiership.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO City 4th Grade, just love it CITY

When our Phil first came to City.

I remember when Phillip Hood first came to City United, he was not the reserved, quiet, polite gentleman we know him to be now.

In a match, in which his son Nick was playing for City United in, Phil was jeering and heckling the umpire (Bruce Skewes) from the sideline.
After an hour of this Bruce had had enough and walked over to the boundary and sat down next to our Phil.
"What are you doing, out here Bruce?" asked our Phil.
"Well," said Bruce, "it seems you get the best view from out here, Phil."

GOOOOOOOOO our Phil will be at City's Night of Night's, he would love for you to say G'Day CITY
