England here I come.

This is an unpaid ad but thought a young player in our club might be interested in making further inquiries.  A note of warning though, one should always do their homework and investigate fully before committing.

My name is Robert Humphries, Director of World Sports Xchange Limited, an Australian-based and managed Cricket Agency specialising in placing players with UK & European clubs.
In our 5 years of operation we have placed over 350 players with clubs in the UK, Holland & Ireland. 210 of those in the last 2 Australian winters alone.
We have a huge demand for Australian players of all standards, whether it be a player on the cusp of First Class Cricket or a 4th Grade player that just wants to experience playing in the UK, we will help anyone that is keen to go!
Without the support of clubs around Australia, we cannot fill the vacancies we have in the UK for 2013, with approximately 110 clubs seeking players immediately from us.
The vast majority of our clubs will provide free accommodation for the player, with assistance to find employment and coaching income. In many cases, our clients receive 100% reimbursement for the cost of their flights and many also receive a weekly retainer for playing, this is dependent on each individual’s ability of course.
I encourage you to please circulate this throughout your clubs and give all of your club members the opportunity to play abroad, as it is a wonderful experience and with the Ashes on, what a time to be in the UK!
 Kindest Regards
Robert Humphries,  World Sports Xchange Limited,   www.worldsportsxchange.co.uk rob@worldsportsxchange.co.uk

A day to remember

I am always thinking of cricket. Eventually, my exasperated wife said, "You think nothing but cricket. I bet you don't even remember the day our first child was born."
"Of course I do," I said with pride. "How could I forget that day, It was the day Steve Waugh scored his 100 not out on the final ball of the day's play against the poms at the SCG."
GOOOOOOO CITY

A Englishman a rock for City

Our own Scott de WEymarn received the 3 First Grade Best & Fairest points after his match winning 70 runs from 257 balls. He showed grit and concentration in his 80 overs spent at the crease.  GOOOOOOOO there is no better feeling when you achieve what you set out to do,  CITY

A chanceless inning

Anthony Fitzgerald  was 4 th Grade's man of match.  Anthony’s  138 runs (retired) the week before which was the clubs first century for the season, was instrumental  in setting West  a score they could not reach. A great achievement Anthony.

That's my mother in law

A few years ago I was so proud of my progress as a batsman and I invited my mother-in-law along to watch me play, hoping to impress her.
At the crease, I turned to the wicket-keeper and said 'I'm anxious to do well and really hoping to hit this ball well today. That's my wife's mother over there.'
'Don't be silly,' said the wicket-keeper. 'You'll never hit her while she is that far away”.

This weekend is the start of the two day matches. You have 80 overs to bat lets use them, best of luck to everyone.

Last man in

Last Saturday at our 4th grade match, City had just lost its ninth wicket. Paul Lawrence was the last batsman in. Paul usually nominates himself as the batting 12th man., so it was a bit unusual for Paul to be going out to bat. One of his team mates turned and said "Well, Paul is certainly an optimist—he's going out wearing sunblock".  There was a bit of a giggle amongst the players until Paul smacked the first ball he faced to the boundary.

But it hurt !!

On Saturday I was given out L.B.W. which reminded me of a dismissal of Johnny Miskle a few years ago.
Johnny received a fast ball which struck him in front. Though it was obviously L.B.W. he tried to feign an injury by dancing around in agony. He fell to the ground clutching his foot and the umpire came up and looked down at him.
'Can you walk?' he asked, solicitously.
Still lying on the ground holding his foot Johnny look up to the umpire, hesitated and then replied   'Yes.'
'Then walk back to the pavilion, mate. You're out!'

Results from Rd 1 games against Old Boys played Sat 6 Oct, 2012

First Grade: Old Boys won the toss and elected to bat first. Old Boys hit 4/251 off their 35 overs. Best bowling:  Scott Hulbert 2/28 off 3 overs; Aaron Dennis 1/34 off 7 overs; Daniel Lawrence 1/43 off 7 overs. In reply City hit 8/211 off their 35 overs. Best batting:  Ryan Hansen 30 runs; Scott De Weymarn 29 runs; Daniel Lawrence 28 runs; Peter Mead 26 runs. In the absence of Dan Whale, Ben Semmler was stand-in captain and lead the side well.  Old Boys opener, Simon Norvill was in good form hitting his first century for the season.  It didn’t help that City dropped him 3 times alone; the first when Simon was on 4 runs.  There will be more catching practice this week lads.  Our batting line-up has plenty of promise and hopefully as the season progresses this will be reflected in the scores. First Grade has gained a few new faces this season in the form of Scott De Weymarn, Scott Hulbert, Simon Toyer & Aaron Dennis.  City also welcomes back to Ben Semmler and Ben Chew.  All these players will provide a huge boost to the First Grade side.
Second Grade: City United won the toss and elected to bat. City United were dismissed for 197 runs in the 34th over. Best batting:  Andy Jarratt 45 runs; Chris Langston 23 runs; Sean Hancock 20 runs. In reply Old Boys were dismissed for 138 runs in the 33rd over. Best bowling:  Shel Ravi  5/34 off 7 overs; Pat Dwyer 2/15 off 7 overs; Chris Langston 2/37 off 7 overs. With the cricket season commencing during the school holidays, some players from the lower grades were called upon to help field a team for seconds. A good win boys, with tougher matches lying ahead.
Third Grade: Unfortunately Old Boys were unable to field a team and handed City United a forfeit.
Players can access the full results by clicking on the link to "results" at the City website. Once again a big thankyou to those players who were asked at late notice to fill-in over the weekend, you all did yourself and your club proud.

Only one sleep to go.

Our own Ryan Hansen pictured here cutting this delivery to the boundary yesterday playing for his Central North team against St. George. Ryan is hoping to be amongst the runs tomorrow when City takes on Old Boys in the first match of the season. Weather forecast tomorrow is Sunny 31 degrees, as my mum always says “don’t forget your hat”. Ryan and his family have covered many miles and visited many towns over the last month for his representative cricket and the love of the game.

our victories together and we all move on from our defeats together, we all wear the same City
clothing with pride.  We play for the club not for a specific team or grade, throughout the season
there will be movement of players within the grades both up and down but always playing for City, that’s what being a part of a club is all about. Best of luck to everyone for the weekend matches.

Not bad for a small sporting body based in the bush.
