The pass and the present.
Our current 1st Grade captain Dan Whale was absent from training on Sunday as he was in Sydney over the weekend, so one of our pass 1st Grade captains in Peter Mead took the lead in running the training session.
Our club is blessed to have both these experienced and passionate senior players who have both played and been successful at the highest level of cricket in Tamworth for a long time. They are both happy to pass on their knowledge of the game and give advice if requested.
Both men train as if they were playing a game, they come to training prepared, they are enthusiastic about all aspects of training and the training they do is quality training. Both men are setting the standard at training to which we can all aspire too.

The duck is back.
The Fourth Grade mascot from last season Duckie is back for another summer of supporting his beloved 4th Grade side. He has spent the colder months of winter up north, hanging out with a noisy mob of Magpie Geese, Duckie reported they were the most unruly flock of birds he had ever been with.
If you look closely you may be able to see him up the back. What information have I missed?

City v's City.
The 1st grade preseason match against Armidale City United (our sister club) was a huge success. It was hard to tell our two clubs apart with similar names and the same Gold and Maroon club colours. A big thank you must go to Steve Butler and his Armidale team for making their way down the highway. The camaraderie amongst the players was great to see.
The bowling saw Jake Philp having only 25 runs taken from his seven overs, Jack McVey 33 runs from his 6 overs, Ben Semmier 1 for 19 off his 8 overs and Dan Lawrence Man of the Match 4 for 36 off his 8 overs.
Our own Tait Jordan 2 for 9 off 5 overs and Andy Jarrett 1 for 39 off 7 overs bowled well for their Armidale cousins. For the record books Armidale got home with three overs to spare. A return match has already been pencilled in. A very big thankyou must go to Nikki, Kathy, Phil, and Paul for all their hard work throughout the day.
The new 1st grade water cooler although a little expensive looked stunning.
GOOOOOOOO they stole our colours and our name and our players CITY
After the match a good crowd turn up at the Tamworth City Bowling Club for a BBQ and a quiet cold drink before the Armidale boys travelled home.
The match proved to be a great hit out for all players involved. City batsmen amongst the runs were Scott de Weymarn with 37, Chris Langston 18, our Captain courageous Dan Whale 45 N.O., Simon Toyer 13, and Dan Lawrence 26.The bowling saw Jake Philp having only 25 runs taken from his seven overs, Jack McVey 33 runs from his 6 overs, Ben Semmier 1 for 19 off his 8 overs and Dan Lawrence Man of the Match 4 for 36 off his 8 overs.

Sometimes they don't see the point of the game but you have to love them.
With the cricket season only a few weeks away now, I remember taking my then girlfriend to her first match of cricket. She sat through the first innings although plainly bored, she was so relieved when we lost our last wicket.
She was then shocked to see after a short break the other team going out to bat. When an opposition batsman gave a tremendous swipe and knocked the ball out of the ground, she was very quick to her feet 'Thank goodness they got rid of it,' she yelled. 'Now we can all go home”.

City’s own Gold & Maroon Baggy
I didn't realize Paint-Ball could be so dangerous.
Timothy Skewes, City United’s new 4th Grade captain was pictured here at the Tamworth Base Hospital after dislocating his shoulder on Saturday, while playing Paint-ball. It was sad news and when the word was passed around at training on Sunday of Timothy’s mishap his many vice captains, he has six in all (I know that’s a lot but our 4th grade side is such a interesting side), wished him a speedy recovery.

It does not get any better than this.
Sunday was a spectacular morning the sun was out, not a cloud in the sky. The additional training equipment that City purchased through the week came in handy as City had 35 players at the morning training session. Once again our 1st grade captain had us going through some fielding drills but this week the stump didn’t stand a chance, as it was being belted from all directions. Even I got close!
Kathy had players filling out their Rego forms and collecting their fees or at least their minimum $65 which must be paid before you can take the field.
Dan Whale is organizing a 1st Grade side, trail match against Armidale City Cricket Club for next Sunday more details on this to follow. We wish them the best but there is still training for the rest of us up and comers next Sunday morning from 10am. There are only three training sessions to go before the season kicks off with a bang against Old Boys with a one-dayer, let’s continue to train hard and have some good performances first up.

Spring is here.
Council has top dressed the turf wickets the days are getting longer and warmer. Sunday Father’s Day training was again very well attended with more new players signing up. Have you filled out your rego form, don’t leave it to the last minute you might be disappointed. You can down load our Registration Form or just attend training. The vibe around training is a good one with a lot of players putting in. The bowling machine was smoking and the batsmen were all on their toes. There are only four more Sunday trainings to go before the season kicks off. It will not be long before you hear the words being yelled, “Catch it”.
