Inspirational words I over heard.

With training only two weeks away.  I was thinking of powerful words of wisdom, which would be inspirational, that would instil a sense of motivation and excitement for the season ahead . I remember something that I overheard from a father to his son who was having trouble hitting the ball in a school practice session.
Dad, I’m very nervous about playing my first game of cricket with this team.
Why is that,son?
But dad they might be all really good players.
Don’t worry son. If they were any good, they wouldn’t have you playing with them.

There is a big season of cricket ahead, with opportunities for you to fulfil your dreams if you put in the effort at training and play hard.
“All your dreams can come true – if you have the courage and determination to pursue them.”
Hope to see you Sunday -10am, 19th August at Riverside 2 practice nets.

Big "'Dan"'

They said to me come along to City’s training, come along and see our bowling machine. 'Bowling machine?' I said,

'What, when I was playing I used to be the bowling machine.'

Who would want to be a opening batsman?

After giving it, to this new player from the other side before the match  Paul Fisher, insisted that Sean Hancock opened the innings against the other side's , new to town player with a demon reputation as the quickest thing to arrive in town for agers.

After the match, back at the bowling club he was asked.

'How did you get on against the new fast bowler in town?'

'No problems. I was having my teeth out tomorrow anyway.'
Don't forget training starts Sunday 19th August 10am at Riverside 2 practice nets, pass the word around.
Seany will be there all dressed up with his brand new helmet and new teeth.

The numbers just keep adding up!

City United web site has just passed 38 000 hits in less than three years. We have had inquires and feed back from visitors who have visited our site from all over the world. Not bad for a small sporting body based in the bush. A big thank you must go to everyone involved from the early days with the likes of Dan Mitchell, Peter Langston and Cory Callott to the current Web custodians.
Gooooooooo City

Aussies recent Oneday series against the old enemy. 4-0

Who would have thought it could come to this!!!!!

Training, no-one can do without it.

City has made some changes to the way we train, the date we train and the venue we train at.

City has also changed its training venue this season to the Riverside nets to allow for more fielding drills to be carried out. City will still have the bowling machine in use every session.

City will commence training early this year, with the first training run set down for Sunday 19th August at 10.00am at Riverside 1. City will continue to train every Sunday morning from 10am at Riverside 2 leading into the first match of the season.

Once the season commences training will convert to Wednesday afternoons starting at 5pm at Riverside 2 nets. City has its own bowling machine and other valued training equipment that will be in full use in the weeks ahead leading into the first match of the season set down for 6th October.

See you there and GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CITY

Coffee Time?

It was great to see Mick Coffey from Addimi Espresso one of our valved supporters and sponsors at our AGM on Monday night. Mick, Dianne and Adrian from Addimi have been associated with City now for a number of years and it’s great to have their support again this season.
In return for their generosity, we ask that you might consider calling in as a way of saying thank you. When you do, present your Addimi card or just say, you are from City United. If you are after the best coffee, the best light meals, the best friendly service in town head down to either one of the Addimi stores located in Peel St. or the newest store in the Guy V Kable Building in Marius Street.

City is building for the 2012/13 season!

City United Cricket Club held its Annual General Meeting last night. The meeting was very well attended, with last year’s committee members were all re-elected unopposed. President -Terry Skewes , Vice Presidents - Cory Callcott and Paul Lawrence, Secretary - Nikki Hansen , Treasure - Kathy Lawrence, Web Masters - Ryan Hansen, Terry Skewes and Cory Callcott.

Terry Skewes addressed the meeting and said results last season were outstanding and exceeded everyone’s expectations with success both on and off the field. He said that City United will continue to build on its depth of players from last season where three grades played in the semi-finals and hoping for more silverware to be added to the club’s trophy cabinet after 3rd Grade won last year’s One Day final.

The club will continue to promote enjoyment and friendship with in the club which was seen throughout last season.

The club was also thrilled to announce Daniel Whale will again be the first grade captain for the coming season. City had the youngest 1st grade team in the competition last season and will again look to youth as the rebuilding of 1st grade continues this season. 1st Grade’s goal this season is to make the semi-final and see what happens after that.

Kathy addressed the meeting and announced that the club is in a strong financial position and will be endeavouring to keep the season fees as affordable as possible.

More from our AGM and information about training in the coming days.
